Don't do that, it would be one quick way to corrupt your installation.
Manuel kindly gave me access to his machines that have this problem and
I have confirmed it. A workaround for now appears to be to add "-binary
./srcds_amd" to the command line (which has the same effect as the
suggestion in the thread below without mucking up your install).
