I agree that IE7 beta is the root of the issue and I've yet to figure
out how I've managed it to this as I am running IE7 beta and have gotten
past the issue.

Hi,
VERY IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVING PROBLEM TO LOAD CONTENT FROM A
SV_DOWNLOADURL-SERVER !!!
Or Admins, that are swamped with player-requests.... :)
I have solved the problem....
InternetExplorer 7-Beta blocks this downloads !!!!!!
I must uninstall IE7 in Windows-Components AND the update-entry to this in
the software-area...
Now it works fine again.... :)

After Deinstallation of IE7 the problem is still there....

Hi,
Now i have cleanly re-install my steam.... Same problem...
Downloads from my own Content-Server brings the client to crash (close)...
Very confusing...I'm the only one with this problem....
The Content-Server runs Apache (same version as the old ones that's running
without problem)...
I have no idea now...
But....hmmm....Since i have this problem i use IE7beta....Maybe it blocks
the downloads (security reason) ?

Great link Mike. And Luzi, I assume then you also tryed the verification
link that was on that thread? Checks your steam files for errors without
re-installing. I def bookmarked that one, you never know!

If no one else is having this problem with the same download server you are
using, try the following:
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Cleanly_reinstalling_Steam
I had something similar this week where my CS client would connect to the
server fine if it had the local content, however any time it had to pull
down content, it crashed to the desktop. I thought it was our new
downloadserver, however I then noticed it extended to DoD when I played that
and it connect to a different download server. I forget what I was
searching for, however Google brought me to that page and it cured my
client-side issue.
Good luck,
Mike

Everytime my client try to download a object (map, sound etc.) my

I think it is a client-issue (because all other players can connect
without problem), but i'm not sure...
