Please join the hlcoders list. We are working on a SDK update now that
will get VS2005 working by default. There are also articles available on
developer.steampowered.com that tell you how to do it yourself.

I do agree about the SDK. We are (a team with ~6 members) creating a
mod and
we need to buy a VS2003, because VALVe has no free time to fix things
with
VS2005 (that one is free as you know).

He may have gone a little over the top, but Valve really does need
to get its shit together. They are a software company... they can't
half-ass. I run quite a few servers as well, and every time a new
update comes out something stops working. SRCDS hasn't worked right
on Linux since last November. It's been 5 months! FIX IT!

It's not just srcds that hasn't worked right, the original engine
has also been bugged since then.

srcds has been beta since it's release to be fair. It certainly
isn't - and never has been a finished product.

For me, the most annoying things about the srcds engine are the
servers just stopping (with the countdown timer stuck at zero),
voice_speex not working, and the SDK being out of date (I won't go
into the lame SDK which hinders - not prevents - mod developers
writing creative plugins)

Clearly some issues should have been fixed more promptly than they
have been, whilst others should never have happened in the first
place.

As for RaynServ, he is doing exactly what a lot of people have
suggested to do when people dare to speak out about the bad
practices of Valve's software development and release cycle, he is
voting with his feet, fair play.

Matt.
