One thing I don't agree with (sorry VALVe) is the delayed banning.
I realize
they are trying to make it so the cheaters don't know what hack
they used.
But IMO, that's not very smart. The reason for an anti-cheat tool
is to weed
them out before they wreak havoc, not after they've had their fun.
So they
find out that the hack they used is VAC-detected. Good. Back to the
drawing
board for them, while honest players can continue to have fun.

Actually, I imagine that it's intended to be a deterrent to ruining
the game, just like copy protection is intended to be a deterrent,
even though tons of games are available on usenet before they hit
store shelves.

Joe Sixpack won't install cheats because it's too much of a pain in
the ass, just like Joe Sixpack won't give John Sixpack a copy of
3r33t Strike Force 2000 Platinum Pro because it's using safedisc and
a cd-key authorization system.

If anyone here honestly thinks that Valve can get rid of every cheat
or expects them to, you need a serious reality check on how computers
actually work.
