Now the questions:
How to configure a client, a player, correctly?
rate could be 20000 without a problem - fits for all cases and servers.
cl_rate could still be at 9999, no real problem here ...
cl_updaterate can not be higher as 40 (limited by sv_maxupdaterate) and
should probably not lower. Maybe just 100 to be right for
War/LAN-Servers? Or does a higher cl_updaterate produces problems of any
kind if higher than the servers sv_maxupdaterate?
cl_cmdrate should be higher as cl_updaterate, yes?
So, if we doubled cl_updaterate from 20 to 40, should be double
cl_cmdrate from 30 to 60?
Is that "more correct", "more exact" then cl_cmdrate of 40 or 50?
What would be the technical effects of cl_cmdrate higher then that?
70,80, 90, 100, 150, 200?
It seems, as soon as we get higher than sys_ticrate, there could be
problems with the synchronisation ... but is that true? Would it not
still better to send the command ("shot") to the server as fast as
possible?
So, why not increase cl_cmdrate to very high levels? 200, 500, 1000
You could increase cl_rate up to 20000 to help with this ...
The question remains, if the server can make use of such high rate of
commands from a client ...
Or does he just drop commnds after some queue ist filled, dropping
shots btw.
So, what is the best value for cl_cmdrate technically - based on the
servers setting and the other settings of a client?
It seems, cl_cmdrate should be somewhere between cl_updaterate and
sys_ticrate - or to be more exact, up to the real FPS of the server.
Should it be higher or less then the actual FPS of the server?
With our example server, doubling cl_updaterate from 20 to 40 to match
the server“s sv_maxupdaterate, we could also double cl_cmdrate from 30
to 60.
Should we go higher than that?
What about a server with sv_maxupdaterate 100?
We should use cl_updaterate 100 then - but which cl_cmdrate? 100 as
well? Or 150 (5 times 30, as 100 is 5 times 20)
Strange questions?
I just cannot find technical information about this ...
My questions expand to ex_interp in the next mail.
