IT could be "easally" done by useing the public GeoIP database. Its about
99% accurate.

The stupid thing now is, i got a 213. adress, and they are not seen often
here, so i get mostly fogein servers on my list. Takes ages to get something
closer.

But i'm happy to hear your doing to do something about it :) This way we
dont need to "fight" either to get 8x.xx.xx.xx IP adresses here in europe so
your server would display the quickest as possible, as most datacenters are
way above that range, but private home connections arnt.

Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] server Brwoser

It is already on the TODO list. I hope to have good news about it before
the end of the year, everyone keep your fingers crossed :)

We also want to give more permanent identities to servers (i.e have them
get a steam id that is sticky) to solve the server moving problem, also
on the TODO list.

This information is totally wrong.

The master servers return from around your IP address first and then
fans outwards, both up and down the list of numerically sorted IPs.

Have you guys thought of enhancing this to take into
account physical locality? Its one area that browser
too my knowledge has taken advantage of as yet.

Its not something that easy to do, IP location DB's
help but are often in accurate. You guys with one of
the largest if not the largest server list is out
there could benefit the users significantly by
enhancing the source engine / master server to
take this into account. You already have some of
the building blocks e.g. basic location present.

Gwan, add it to the big todo list :)
