Hey,
We use Fedora Core 4 on dual Xeon 3.2ghz (2Mb L2) and run without any
problem 14 CS1.6 server (12 players) at stable 250fps.
(yes we recompiled the kernel)
And how many slots are filled max at which cpu usage? That's the only
thing that matters and I don't think all 168 Slots can be filled.
Based on our calculations, all 168 slots can be filled in with still
some CPU spare.
Currently a 10 slots CS1.6 @ 250fps uses up to 18% of one logical CPU (4
logical CPUs are present due to HT).
Btw: if someone can explain the high context-switch (shown in "vmstat
1") numbers I have (12000+): shoot!
Never tested Mandriva though but I think FC has less service layers than
Mandriva, which is better.
And if you could provide us figures that actually shows a 20-26% boost,
I'd be glad to "upgrade" to Mandriva ;-)
btw, can you explain the "Fedora Core X doesn't use as much resources as
Windows. But only by a very small fraction <6-8%" ?
I'm interested in that too :-)
PS: You should deactivate unused services. With the default FC
installation there a lot non-sense services started by default. Check
the "setup" util.
I guess you're talking about the bluetooth, isdn & co services installed
by default, even in minimal setup! ;-)
For other people who want to disable extra services: "chkconfig --list",
then "chkconfig <name> off" to disable at boot-time (and also "service
<name> stop" to stop it...)
