As stated in this mailing, the 64 bit version of HLDS is unsupported for
a while...
This means the 64bit version is OUTDATED and yes, consumes less CPU.
Ask Valve for more info :-)

Linux 32 bit binary runs better if the Linux OS is running 64bit mode
natives, assuming the CPU supports 64bit?
