Hello All,
I banned a real jerk by his steam ID earlier in the week. Last night
he
reappeared on my servers without any problem..
However upon looking into his connection he came on under the Steam ID..
STEAM_ID_LAN
Has anyone experienced this before?

First of all, thanks.
My version of ping doesn't support -n [number]. So i was guessing i
should use -s [packet size].
As far as i can tell (and judge) i'm getting reasonably fast ping replies.
They range from 0.080ms to 0.110ms
Crazy Canucks wrote:
I'm guessing you are paying for a hosting service for your server. If
that is the case, open a command prompt and run "ping -n 100 xxx", where
"xxx" is the ip of your server. That should give you a pretty good idea
whether you are having network problems or not. If you are hosting your
own server at your location, substitute "xxx" for some domain name.
Most major domains don't respond to pings though, so you'll have to find
one that does.

Getting stuck at positions, not being able to move. Looked pretty much

Or maybe the server was having hickups.
How can i determine if the problem is with my connection or with the
server?
And is there anything to control this behavior, in case the problem is
with the server?
Thanks in advance

Correct, its been done by a simple plugin.
Anyhow, how its done is not the question, the question is if we can come
to
a solution.
Cheers,

I believe that the cap can now be broken using a Source Mod plugin,
which isn't in violation of any TOS or copyright that I know of.

If you were to use the plugin to raise the cap to 25, but only have 24
players visible would it still get filtered out of the server browser?

Thats what I am wondering as well. I will probably test it when i get
home, i was unaware that there is a plugin available. Honestly,
though, there shouldn't be a need for a plugin. We should just be
able to start up using +maxplayers 25, without the need to hack a dll

A much better diagnostic would be to get a copy of pingplotter
(www.pingplotter.com) and set it up on your client to ping your server
while
you play, set the resolution to 5 or 10 seconds and let it run for several
days (it's very low overhead).
If you have any client-side network problems it will show up with all hops
getting losses, if you have server related network problems only the last
hop to your server will show problems and if your server provider is the
problem the hop that leaves the global net and enters your hosting
provider
(and probably those after) will show problems.
Steam updates and client computer / client network problems are the most
common cause of lag and unexplained glitches while playing (usually not
the
server) and pingplotter will almost immediately point these out.
Right-click on each hop that you want a graph for to monitor a specific
hop.

If you are on Linux you can use -c instead of -n.

The server size filter is a ridiculous attempt by the devs to control
game play and should be done away with. Make the game, and let server
admins do what they want with it, that is the way it has always been
with Valve games, and huge part of the reason why Valve games are so
popular. You (the devs and Valve) are only cutting your own throat by
starting down that road. It won't happen today, or tomorrow, but
eventually that kind of policy decision will rise up and bite you in the
ass...
You can't fool the filter by hiding the extra slot.

One of the community gurus ( KBH Keeper) has created a temporary fix for
this. He's got a plugins website that he maintains located at
http://www.hl2plugins.com/ and I've been using the fix for a few weeks
now.
It will work until valve fixes the actual problem. When/if they do, then
you'll have to remove this patch to prevent duplicate chat messages.

Hello.
The Half-Life2 DM Chat/Console is still broken on Linux servers.
Is it possible to get some Information about, whether you work on a fix
or
not? And when it will probably be finished?
I asked this question 1 MONTH !! ago, and the Support said, we know the
problem and are working on it.
Yesterday i asked support again, and the same answer.
This problem exist now since September 12, 2007, 1:10 pm - Jason Ruymen
That is not ok, i'm very sad/disappointed.
:(
I know you've a lot to do, with the new games e.g. TF2.
But it is not ok, to neglect this problem in HL2DM. (and this problem
happend the second time, after an source engine update)
It's not only the chat problem, the whole console is broken,
most of the commands dont work. Plugins like MANI Admin dont work
anymore
and automatic scripts like from eventsscripts dont work neither.
So the servers only vegetate :(
sincerely yours
Manni

Yeah, but this doesn't fix the interaction with Mani and eventscripts.
Eventscripts can be fixed internally. Mani is out of luck with chat
because
he triggers the actual say command which is what is broken on linux. Mani
commands can still be executed via console, which is how I have my keys
bound anyway, not via the chat.
But my plugin is a temp fix for chat only.
