As far as I know the socket 771 Xeon does use about 40% less power then the
775 ones.

Actually, the technical difference between Xeon and Core 2 is minimal.
AFAIK, a Xeon is slightly better than the equivalent Core 2 Extreme, but
I haven't done much research.
