Yeah... since then, the furry porn has moved fully to the spraypaint images.
I think it's really more a design decision than a bug... maybe something
to protect Valve from litigation when somebody associates the
furry-porn-branded download server they are using with Valve. However, I
didn't partake in the decision making and/or the thought process, so I
don't know for sure. (Why Valve decided to remove banners and not the
spraypaint images is beyond me.)

P.S. If you think I'm a bit extreme with the furry porn, check your
download cache.

nothing is out of date, servers (of any type) do not support custom

Subject: [hlds_linux] Never ever seen my banner.gif
Hi!
Been running a hlds server (CS, 1.6, Linux 2.6.18
with
staircase sched. , Debian 4.0, AMD i686-something)
for
some year.
I use a separate machine hosting a dedicated webb
server (VN) for suplying faster downloads and this
seems to work good.
But whenever I connect to my server, from home or
anywhere with some friends account the banner
gfx/banner.gif is never properly displayed below the
"Host provided by:".
Inspecting my webb-server (Slackware something,
Linux
2.2, VN 1.18) log I notice banner.gif is properly
requested and sucessfully downloaded by clients:
83.254.116.43 - - [17/Nov/2007:21:38:00 +0100] "GET
/cstrike/models/player/girl_
te/girl_te.mdl HTTP/1.1" 200 557056
igor.linux.bogus - - [17/Nov/2007:21:39:29 +0100]
"GET
/cstrike/gfx/banner.gif H
TTP/1.1" 200 1922
Ive created several gif images with The Gimp,
keeping
them small by using the traditional net-optimized
palette/colour-cube, 340x56 pixels.
The latest image I´ve tried is avail at:
http://urvhalt.mine.nu/cstrike/gfx/banner.gif
Is there some other special requierements (maybe
format?) for this banner to be displayed?
Best regards,
