Hi all, Very new to the list and have searched the archives but i can not find an answer to my question. First ill go through my basic setup. I have a few server boxes, and alot of servers running. The basic hardware is duel quad core xeons with 8 gig of ram. Im using gentoo as an OS. I can get you my kernel config if you really need it. Only one of these boxes has CZ servers on it. It also holds UT2k4 servers as well as TF2. I am using srcds_run as the binary to start them, and they start from an init.d system. The srcds_run provided by the steam install, chooses the srcds_i486 binary. Now on the the problem:
I have had these servers up for quite a while, and i have noticed that they eat about 2-8% (found via top) of CPU every other second or so. None of my other servers do this. Either from steam or not from steam no other server has this issue. I set top with a refresh of 3 seconds and the below you will see the output of just a few seconds worth of data gathering. It is important to note that nobody is connected to these servers, and the loads you see here are not comparable with the load of the other servers. A full 24 man tf2 and a 2 full 16 man ut2k4 servers together barely reach 1% constant cpu load. This bothers me alot and i am wondering if this is a known issue, or if this is something new?
