I've always wanted to be able to put in a DNS name instead of an IP, and KEEP it as a name, instead of having it automatically resolve once to whatever the current IP is, and then stored as only that IP. That way, as long as the server op keeps his DNS entries updated, you could just connect to css.icountsheep.com instead of having to go in and manually change your favorites IP addresses in the rare event of an IP address change.
Is it really that hard to change that stored variable to accept text, and then KEEP it as stored text? I know, slow DNS servers may frustrate SOME players, but this would be a HUGE boon to server ops running on a dyndns setup, which is where a ton of server ops got a start on their server admin experience - running it on their home connection. We all got started somewhere. We should discuss this idea further, and if Valve wont implement it, isn't there some kind of client side plugin that can implement it? Rick Payton, I.T.
