To reply to a thread, like the example you gave, press reply on THAT thread.
If a post interests you and you want to answer someones problem or post
relevant info - press reply on the thread in question.

Once a while we all get the Digest email - I wouldnt bother replying in that
for anything. Just reply to the thread that you want to interact with.

The reason you method posted a new thread is because you changed the
subject. The subject was new to the list so it created a new thread.
