Hi Paul,

The resource that I've found most helpful in determining lag spikes or other
latency issues is MRTG (http://www.mrtg.org). It's an open-source SNMP
monitoring system written in Perl, so it's extremely compatible and portable.
I have mine graphing bandwidth in/out, CPU usage, RAM usage, ping time to
gateway, ping time to an internet host, number of open TCP/IP connections, and
much more. It should be pretty obvious where your problem lies once you get
MRTG configured and check out the graphs. If you want to see a demo of it, go
to http://stats3.trimsg.com/ (Something I put up a while back primarily to show
people MRTG). Enjoy!

Subject: [hlds_linux] Resources for diagnosing lag spikes

Hi all,

I dont know too much about the netcode side of SRCDS but i know that theres
more to lag than ping alone.
Some of my regular players (24 slot TF2 server, metamod, sourcemod) have
been complaining about lag spikes only recently, as in since 2-3updates ago.

While its quite possible this can be attributed to sourcemod of one if its
plugins, does anyone know of any documents/resources online that might help
me diagnose the actual cause? Possibly with some explanation on how i can
tell if the lag spikes are occuring without having to rely on what my
players tell me (since their view is going to be subjective anyway)

Thanks in advance,
Paul (Arg!)
