"Cutting Valve slack" is not the only alternative to having "no dedicated server for Linux". There is nothing wrong in requesting well-optimized binaries of software so popular; just think of the increased the target audience for hosting/playing on dedicated servers! :) > Performance has always creeped over time with dedicated games servers. > We used to be able to run 6x 20 slot CS servers on a Dual PIII 1Ghz back > in the day. This is more than 'creeping' increases in CPU usage. To illustrate this with an example: a server that's been previously capable of running 24 slots without breaking a sweat, now has trouble coping with 20 slots (same maps & settings) sometimes. -- AE + $0.02 _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
