"Cutting Valve slack" is not the only alternative to having "no 
dedicated server for Linux". There is nothing wrong in requesting 
well-optimized binaries of software so popular; just think of the 
increased the target audience for hosting/playing on dedicated servers! :)

This is more than 'creeping' increases in CPU usage. To illustrate this 
with an example: a server that's been previously capable of running 24 
slots without breaking a sweat, now has trouble coping with 20 slots 
(same maps & settings) sometimes.
