I would like to chime in and express my disappointment as well. I've been
following this list, like others, since the early CS 1.5 days, through the
WON shutdown, through the Steam launch, through 1.6, through Source and
now to Orange Box. The funny thing is that I don't even run a game server
anymore but still subscribe and read this list daily. It is a great
resource to the backend/server admin community without having to deal with
the end users. Even if these new forums somehow have competent moderators
or private forums for new admins it will take away from the overall
knowledge gained from this list.

I highly doubt that it is a resource issue inside of Valve since this is
not a high traffic mailing list and it may require one server to host it.
Between the network required to run Steam and the bandwidth used by Steam
this mailing list could not be that noticeable.

Personally it feels like a new manager has come in to the support side of
Valve and is attempting to standardize all support. Remove any resources
that don't "fit the mold". I sincerely hope that there is a real business
reason for shutting down this mailing list other than business politics.

I will not be following the threads to the forums. Thank you and that is all.

Ryan
