It's not quite that pointless if you want decent map change load times.

What you could simply do thought is sticking some extra RAM and create yourself 
a RAM drive.

I would say a dual core processor and 2 gigs of ram with a 7200rpm HD at
least. It really depends what you expect to put on it.
