I doubt that somebody would pay for Gb bandwidth when the budget for the
hardware is ~1k EUR.

Apart of that Rictec, check the mailing list archive for exact numbers,
a few fellow admins shared their configurations and the number of forks
for their gameservers (and the hardware usage). It would also help if
you could provide information about what kind of game(s) you are
planning to host. If memory serves me right, I was running L4D on 256MB
of RAM and a Pentium III CPU (1GHz) without problem. Now running L4D2
with two forks on a virtual machine (Xen, Debian 64bit), with 384MB of
RAM without swapping at all (CPU is a single core from a Quad Core CPU,
but CPU usage is negligible). This virtual machine also hosts ventrilo,
teamspeak and apache.
