hi guys, i am getting the illegal instruction error when trying to install hlds on my debian lenny. i found out that this has to do with the mandatory sse2 support of the newer hlds updates. i have an athlonxp 2400+ which supports sse only.
can you confirm that the problem has to do with my cpu not supporting sse2? if this is the case - where can i find an older hlds version? it is highly frustrating having to throw away my old system because of that. it's a 10 years old game we want to play - cstrike 1.6, after all. or is there any other workaround? is it a good alternative option to install wine and put a windows version of hlds. will these fix the problem at all? thanks in advance p.s.: you, valve, are the cool guys rocking the game development scene. please don't f*** this image up. :) here some further informations: the error: sh-3.2$ ./steam > Checking bootstrapper version ... > removing stale semaphore last operated on by process 2831 with name > 0eBlobRegistryMutex_10BE01D0EA34A415C25C4D8694B6F8D3 > removing stale semaphore last operated on by process 2831 with name > 0eBlobRegistrySignal_10BE01D0EA34A415C25C4D8694B6F8D3 > Getting version 36 of Steam HLDS Update Tool > Illegal instruction my cpu: > sh-3.2$ cat /proc/cpuinfo > processor : 0 > vendor_id : AuthenticAMD > cpu family : 6 > model : 8 > model name : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+ > stepping : 1 > cpu MHz : 2000.141 > cache size : 256 KB > fdiv_bug : no > hlt_bug : no > f00f_bug : no > coma_bug : no > fpu : yes > fpu_exception : yes > cpuid level : 1 > wp : yes > flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat > pse36 mmx fxsr sse syscall mmxext 3dnowext 3dnow up > bogomips : 4004.25 > clflush size : 32 > power management: ts > linux kernel > sh-3.2$ uname -r > 2.6.26-2-686 > _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
