Have you been in a cave, behind a NAT? :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv4_address_exhaustion
I remember reading that we would run out back in the 90's. Then better routing, DHCP and NAT saved the day. About 1 year ago I read we were going to run out in 2010. Now they say before 2012. My guess is "something" will happen before we run out and the date will be extended. However, I believe we will run out within a few years. In the US, ISPs Comcast and Verizon are testing IP6. I have not read that any other ISPs are testing. So, the switch to IP6 will be a rush job at the last minute. With IP6, every person on earth could have over 1 trillion IP addresses each. So, IP6 should last until self replicating nano bots are created. But maybe NAT will be used to save that day! } -----Original Message----- } From: [email protected] [mailto:hlds_linux- } [email protected]] On Behalf Of clad iron } Sent: Sunday, August 15, 2010 4:02 AM } To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list } Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] STEAM_0:0:1 } } could this have some truth ? less than a year ? } } http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/less-than-a-year-until- } internet-addresses-run-dry-20100726-10r83.html?autostart=1 } } On Sun, Aug 15, 2010 at 12:00 AM, Allan Button <[email protected]> } wrote: } } > 10,000 dial up users.
