Hm. Ive had my steam client not be able to connect to the item server, and I do 
see connections going out, but mine does reconnect, again normally after a few 
deaths. But I do not have to restart anything.

My 13 tf2 boxes have had good luck it seems -- they stay connected, I haven't 
had these issues with mine.
