Well, after getting a bit of feedback from this list, I decided it was time to clean up my setup into a single directory (and clean up 12+Gb of duplicate files).

I started from scratch to make sure everything is clean, so I downloaded hldsupdatetool.bin, extracted it, all good.

Now when I try to run ./steam, I get this:

$ ./steam
Checking bootstrapper version ...

And thats where it stops. I don't see any network traffic happening other than clients trying to connect to the stopped servers.

Any thoughts on what is going on here?

SteamCMD works, but as we know, TF2 is not available via that process yet...
