I have my link set to http://paul.luon.net/journal/, but I try out/preview my journal on http://paul.somemachine.luon.net/journal/. As it turned out... the order of including plugins seems to matter a lot. I required hobix/plugin/calender before local, this should be the other way around. This is not really intuitive, since one expects local.rb to be the 'master override'.
