If you are willing to do it this way it will probably work for you. When you migrate start from scratch. Generate a new app. Add one model at a time and try and get the desired behavior. Only cut and paste the field definitions into the models. When linking tables together use the guidelines in the agility tutorial. Heck just do the Agility tutorial from start to finish and you will probably realize everything you need is right there.
I think you will find that it is easier to move from a working skeleton app to your app, rather than try to make your previous stuff work. You can still cut and paste, but just do it a little at a time, and be very willing to throw away your old code and do it over. Don't pull your hair out, you could chase stuff like this down forever and still never figure out why it doesn't work. Start from something working and move towards your end product one step at a time.
