I did additional testing using rvm 1.9.2-p180 and 1.8.7-p334 with rails 3.0.6 and 3.0.4, with hobo 1.3.0.pre31 and pre29.
I tried 1.8.7 with all 4 combinations of: pre31(3.0.4/6), pre29(3.0.4/6) and got the same behavior i got with 1.9.2/pre31/3.0.6. In all cases I can create a new app in rails, start it, and view in browser. This is on a Toshiba Satelite laptop with Linux (PCLinuxOS).
