Yes.  Hobo 1.4 is still at the "some things are broken" stage.

If your app is going to be javascript heavy, I recommend starting from
this no-prototype branch:

But otherwise an alpha branch is probably not the best place for a
newcomer to start.

1.8.7 runs fine -- that's what we're running the cookbook on.   1.9.2
is probably the best tested branch for 1.3.
