I moderate when I've got time - typically deleting 100-300 pieces of spam at a time, usually by removing an entire user account of links masquerading as recipes. I've not done so since, IIRC, Wednesday. It builds up quickly.
IMO, a spam checker, like Akismet, would probably catch most of this stuff. It's very much like the link laden spam dropped on blog comment areas. I have a professional subscription to Akismet for client WordPress sites - I'd be happy to buy an Akismet license for the Cookbook or to let the cookbook use mine. However, coding to use Akismet... is a bit beyond my skills and time. I'm still quite a newbie with Hobo. Cheers, JeremyC.
