~~~ it is done. ;) yup ... that new Sasser Worm ... making use of Windoze holez ... it was a tough one ... Stinger found 4 infected files ... and Norton 2 more. one of them could not be repaired, quaranteened or deleted by Stinger or Norton as they somehow managed to be processes that were in use. took the removal tool from Symantic to get it out. and even then ... i found a file lurking in system32 that was spawned by the worm even tho neither norton or stinger would see it as infected. just for anyone who might come up against it ... look for avserve2.exe ir any 5 digit number followed by _up.exe (like 19506_up.exe) running as a process or in windows\system32\ ... that's it. the removal tool is here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.rem oval.tool.html it doesn't appear to harm anything or overwrite anything ... just a royal pain in the .... ;) but hey ... it's part of the price we pay for having computers. the skills gained from writing such programs and the programs which defeat them increases knowledge. without it ... we would be talking with two cans and a piece of string stretched between them.
