asked me 'puter guru to take a look at what you wrote ...
he said you've done all the right things ...
and the only other thing you might do is to double check 
the lan settings for the apps that aren't working and the 
tcp/ip setting in the network configuration for talking 
to the dsl modem.
otherwise ... ?????????????

had strange goings on here today as well ...
and couldn't communiate with the isp.
but it seems to have passed.
did have to reset the modems and router.

so who knows ...
something might have been reeking havoc today?
