Dear Joyce,I wonder where these are coming from?I wonder if Lizzie downloads music with peer to peer software? That's normal and that is the price
You're correct... what teen can resist the music sharing, and of course there's the IMing with file transfers i think.
- keep the guards updated and in memory if you are doing this.
What do you recommend is the best approach for this?
There is indeed a new batch going around. There is even a virus that speaks a message . . .(virus writers are communicators - of a sort)
Spoken viruses? is nothing sacred?
It depends a lot on what sort of Internet activity you are involved with.
The good news is that the 2AM autorun of AVG this morning fixed the last two viruses for her.
meanwhile . . .. . . old hippies might find 'Groovy' a new programming language not so groovy- hence the need for Tmxxine ASQ 'Language watch'
IMO, this is well-written and well-presented. The wikibooks you're writing are very useful.
and DotGNU might suit you Joyce - rather than using the MS version .Netbut the way to get a secure computer (getting back to that) is to download puppy linux(or maybe there is a super secure linux distro for USB)put it on a keyring and do all your booting and work from thator perhaps booting from a 'live CD'You COULD do this with Windows BUT because of MS licensing it isnot that straightforward
This intrigues me - not the part about doing it on M$ platform which i would not try - but the notion of booting from USB lifestick. I want to try that at work and see if i can circumvent the corporate snoopware. (a fun challenge).
Dunno if I would bothertry anti-vir and see if it is better than AVG(I have started using it because it has some trojan support)
Good idea. Thanks for mentioning it. Before Lizz diagnosed the viruses on her the Zero laptop, she had networked it with Dell PC and uploaded things... So now we need to be meticulous about making sure Dell PC is scrubbed, so will try anti-vir and report back.
for me the viruses went down since using foxmail
Good to hear this. May give foxmail a try here.
This is the first time any of our computers have actually been infected ever! It is a humbling experience. Wait, it is the second time, but last time it was only 1 small insignificant virus - my fault for launching it.
And FireFox and Slimbrowser (for Curlchat) are now my preferred browsers- if Firefox were to run Curl - that would be it for IE (Internet Explorer) derivatives.
Slimbrowser works with CurlChat??? Wow, will have to give it a try... Also, speaking of, i find that i am in transit in the mornings between 11:00 and 12:00GMT, so have been missing everyone there. Please let me know if there are any other times when CurlChat happens? I am missing it.
Firefox has completely usurped Opera for me ...
It's wonderful.
IE is being developed for the new operating system from MS - a couple of years awaybut the one to watch out for will be integrated with a search engine
We are switching to XP on Oct 15 at work, with Active Directory... So more new toys to test out!
- talking of search enginesthey nearly named this one (still in beta so a bit slow)after me
:)
had to move Holygeeks Freeware page
This is a great compilation of software! Very useful and so handy to have it all in one place. Thanks for it.

OK, so how do i tell if my bonsai tree is alive or not? They grow so slowly... The needles don't look all that different from when it was inherited 2 weeks ago - some are yellow/brownish and some are green - but not that healthy-looking emerald green.
I am concerned about getting it back to health...
love,
joyce
