Maybe that's the heart of the problem. It sounds like of like what's needed is a portal which knows about all of the other devices/sites around the house and gives a click through to them. That very well could be my router. Or alternatively, maybe my browser can figure it out itself and cons up a web page on its very own and give me a nice shiny "homenet" button.

If we have expectation of somebody configuring their printer with a web UI, why should we not expect the same for routers, or naming services? IMO, people don't futz around with things unless there's a reason. But they will if they want/have to. These things need to be dumbed down to be certain, but I've never thought we need to be hamstrung by the assumption of zeroconf just because people don't currently have much of a relationship with their networking gear.
