Hans, I couldn't agree more, though in years gone by while a student I think I 
noticed this stuff more.  Now, heck, I almost prefer some clams.  I am so sick 
of over engineered contemporary recordings - they are almost unlistenable  

an aside:  The best recording of James Chambers that I know is the performance 
of Til Eulenspiegel with Bernstein. 
Unbelievable - simply superb - and best yet - its either completely or nearly 
completely live - how can you tell? - the clams - (not in the first horn part I 
might add)
