As others have posted, get involved in groups outside of high school. Back
in the late 60s, early 70s, from 9th grade on, I did community band on
Monday night, district select wind ensemble (made up of select students from
14 high schools) on Tuesday night, and district select orchestra on Thursday
night, Saturday was lesson day while at the same time playing in band and
orchestra at school. Junior and senior year in high school played in the
local "professional" symphony and a number of traveling shows, and senior
year took music theory and "class piano" (which was really ear-training and
solfege class) at the local junior college. So there are ways to challenge
yourself, providing the resources are there. If those types of opportunities
are not available, talk to your director and tell him/her that you need to
be challenged more. After all, the director doesn't read minds (well, at
least most don't) and won't know until you speak up. You might be pleasantly
surprised at the outcome.
