Bob,

Your reply re trio repertoire brought to mind another violin, horn and piano
trio that I once heard you perform. It was a piece by Robert Helps, and I
recall that it was a very fine work, well written for all three instruments and
quite challenging. I do not know if it ever has been published. I think that
I have a manuscript copy (somewhere).

I wonder if a quick email to the Philadelphia Symphony would yield any info
on how to contact Mason Jones family/friends. Sometimes these kinds of
direct attempts can actually work. Not too long ago I was puzzled about the
trumpet parts on the Chicago Symphony recording of 'La Mer', around
rehearsal 70 that are missing from most recordings. So on a whim I dashed
off an email to the CSO using an email address at their website. Within 5
minutes I got an email back from the CSO librarian, that started 'I just
happen to have the 2nd trumpet player standing next to me, and he says...
blah blah blah.'

I now have some theories about those missing trumpet melodies for later
posts.

I realize Jones is a common surname (<== librarian jargon) and thus
hard to track down, but <snip>...
