David,
   I came across the info about the early Conn 8D on their serial # list: 
http://www.whc.net/rjones/connfrench.html    There you will see this 3 
piston/1 rotor model being built from 1919 to 1929.   10 years is quite a 
while for a horn to be made and then just vanish.  I will double what you 
said, has anyone played one, or seen one, or ever even seen a picture of 
one?

   BTW, I own a piston Schmidt model 6D made in '34.
