I guess that you can consider a horn mouthpiece with an adapter and play  
the trumpet that way.

Not the answer  you are hoping for, but....
... sounds like someone who could make good use  of a mellophone.
That's how I got started (at nine). But mine was called a  tenor horn. :-)
