There's a little breathing technique a friend showed me a few years ago
that can be very nice in some situations.  Let's say you have a phrase that you
can't quite make all the way in one breath, and you really don't want to break
the phrase up.  Or maybe you can usually make it, but you suddenly find
yourself in performance, out of air before the end of the phrase.
You can often sniff just enough air through your nose only, say on the dot
of a dotted note or some other convenient place, to make the difference.  With
a little practice you can do it very quickly and without disturbing your
embouchure so nobody who's listening will notice that you did it.  Not a
fillerup kind of breath, just enough of a little toot to get you to the next
place you can get a real breath.
As long as you don't have hay fever!
