In my experience, mechanical linkages increase (not decrease) the throw, so you may not have to take that step with the old Kruspe. However, an articulated arm, which would be a less radical alteration, might reduce the throw of a string action system, but I am not sure; an expert brass technician will know.

Question two: My horn is an early- to mid-1930s Kruspe in superb condition. I can minimize the throw of the keys and make the playing easier (and faster) by installing mechanical linkages (and probably in doing so postpone the need for surgery)…but would it be a travesty to adapt such a beautiful and historic instrument? Another alternative: Perhaps a good repair person could build new valve levers that are offset to use fingers 1,3,4 rather than 1,2,3. _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/treicher%40cooley.com This email message is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information.
