I would appreciate some of you giving your opinions about having the
opportunity
of playing in an amateur civic orchestra, and you have the decision to make
whether you would take the 2nd horn position or the 3rd horn position. Assume
that the orchestra plays the standard classical literature and that you have
the
ability to play both low and high horn. Which chair would you choose, and why?
Another caveat to throw in here , as a second part to this question (after
answering the first part), is assuming that the 3rd person is a weak player;
thus, if you pick the 3rd position he would be placed 2nd and you would sit
down-sound of him, would this change your opinion about possibly taking the 3rd
position? Thank you.
