I totally agree! I know sometimes I post silly remarks on this forum, but on this issue, I would never attempt to push my beliefs upon anyone and I do respect the beliefs of others.
Hans, I really enjoyed your remarks about your version of a "coffin". When you're gone, you're gone. A funeral is for the family and friends of the deceased, in my opinion. When Harry Truman was told about how his funeral was going to be done, he remarked "It looks like a pretty damned good show, wish I could be there". I don't like when others think they can inject their views and mores upon someone else, i.e. a priest, etc. I know of musicians that have lost work due to an official from a church not giving permission to a bride for the kind of music SHE wishes to have at her wedding. The music was in good taste, but the church official would not grant permission. To me, this is ridiculous! I attend a church where there is NEVER instrumental music in worship, but when my daughter married, we had a brass quintet of some of my closest friends and colleagues that donated their services as a gift to my daughter and her husband. No official from the church had a problem with hearing a brass quintet. The only thing my daughter said was "no Dad, you can't play horn, you have to walk me down the isle"...All said in jest, it was a wonderful day. Conja, I hope your service is just beautiful and you and your finance' have a great life together. Music is a thing per se, no matter what others underlay text- or storywise. Why should a solemn piece by Richard Wagner - there are some - not be played in church just because he conducted his life not as a nice example for the youth ? Ridiculous. Very well said Conja (below) ! ################################################################ Am 26.03.2011 um 19:08 schrieb Conja Summerlin: > Andrew: > > I respect your belief system but in regards to whether the music is > appropriate, it's a moot point as the wedding won't be at a church that > prohibits such music.
