Well I must say I can do a better lip trill on the horn than I could do a shake 
on the trumpet.  All I ever got on the trumpet was a bloody lip. :)

And as for the shakes in general:  I have lots of those now.  :)

When I was a teen and still had dreams of playing jazz trumpet, that's exactly 
what we called them...Funny how a bit of jazz education helps when I need to 
"swing" on a horn part. It's fun to get away with scoops and shakes and the 
director never says a word, because the Trumpets are doing the same things.
