As many of us know, there is no more torturous environment than in a sound producing room at a workshop. It's expected that players pick up the instruments and try them, but folks, please, PLEASE, have a care where you are aiming that instrument of mass destruction before you take off on your wild ride of fffff excerpts. Wes Hatch got a huge earful from a kid trying out a horn at another exhibitor's space just this past weekend. It's worse at trumpet shows, as you can imagine. Especially because those b@st@rds can see whom they are blaring at, triple high c at quadruple loud f. (Andy Taylor of the UK has a trumpet he made with a bell bent 180 degrees backwards to give to players who insist on trying to poke holes in his head with their playing. The Suicide Trumpet!) Don't forget, almost every workshop has practice rooms in which you can try out horns, with the exhibitors' permission of course. -- *Regards, Dave Weiner Brass Arts Unlimited* _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
