May I add something for Valerie:

If the leading player (concertmaster in the symphony or first fluegelhorn in
the band)
goes sharp a bit for whatever reason (room temp e.g.), one has to follow using
the main tuning slide
to adapt., no mater what´s ones own personal opinion or feeling. Listening to
the other players is very important.

Said a wise music director to a player, who tuned his instrument according to
his own feelings:
"Buy yourself a stick & make yourself self employed, by founding & perhaps
funding your own band !"
