Hi Valerie, Apology accepted. Don't talk about senior moments when you are patently obviously younger than I am!
Most postings generalise and it cannot be other than that. All we can do is talk from experience - our own. Many professionals are out of touch with amateurs (note spelling!) because they have no contact with them. But they are least likely to contribute to a list such as this. My impression of the amateur contributions to this list is that the majority take horn playing more seriously and to a greater depth of knowledge than most professionals. Some of the subjects discussed here I've never heard talked about in over 40 years of professional playing and sometimes I get the impression that the 'science' behind the instrument and its playing is more attractive than the mere playing of it. I think that the playing of the horn, if you are guided by an expert and sympathetic instructor, is simpler than many believe. My frustration is reading many speculative postings that talk around the subject when I know that if I had you (not you specifically) in my study for a lesson I could turn speculation into fact, and improvement.
