Hi Chris, <<Last time I checked, no one in the Columbus Symphony plays a 10D anymore.>>
I don't usually post to this list, but a friend told me about your posting...our principal horn, Gene Standley, currently plays a 10D. At the time of the last Columbus Horn Day, he was playing his father's C.F. Schmidt horn, but switched to the 10D as his main instrument soon afterward. He's been playing the 10D for quite a while now, sounds great on it and seems very happy with it. At the time of the workshop, all of us except Martina Snell had purchased 10D's and had used them at one time or other in the orchestra. We all had custom work done to them, but that's the case with professionals everywhere who play factory-made instruments. I still feel that it's possible for the Conn 10D to almost match the quality of custom horns with a little repair work, if you can find a good one off the shelf. If any of you have further questions about it, please e-mail me privately or ask me on the Yahoo mailing list! -------------------------------- Julia Rose Associate Principal/3rd horn Columbus Symphony Orchestra http://home.columbus.rr.com/juliarose message: 15 date: Mon, 29 Sep 2003 05:23:51 -0700 (PDT) from: Chris Tedesco <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> subject: Re: [Hornlist] Conn 11DRS Last time I checked, no one in the Columbus Symphony plays a 10D anymore. I remember vaguely someone mentioning at a horn workshop in Columbus, perhaps Scott Bacon, that their section played on 10Ds. When the quartet came out, someone asked what they were playing, and there wasn't a single 10d in the lot. I heard also there was a number of modifications made on each horn in section. Someone had a burr in their leadpipe, I am not mistaken. Chris --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo!
