Of course I know Rudy is BASED on a true story. Real life doesn't make for good cinema. Whether you liked Moulin Rouge is beside the point. The script called for a young writer who falls in love with a beautiful courtesan. I agree that Ms. Midler is a beautiful woman, but Ewan McGregor and Bette would look ridiculous together.
