I have to agree that a lot is purely manufactured, but my son has managed to 
capture a CD of pretty interesting disco and another of well done rap.  
However, when you check out the credits, the musicians have superb credentials.  One 
of the nice things about being a musician is that, when listening to 
something really repulsive, you can entertain yourself by assessing the musical 
ability of each member of the group.  Often there is somebody quite talented that 
you cheer up with a little recognition.

I've grown up in a musical family, and my dad told me, "never criticize 
another man's music until you can tell a good song from a bad song."  I doubt if I 
ever would have gone through disco and rap to reach that plateau.  I guess 
that's what kids are for.  I remember impressing my dad very much with Santana 
and Janis Joplin.  Probably a generation thing.
