Hi Chris,
The factories had to change over their cleaning methods only fairly
recently and they are still working the bugs out.
It's interesting to me that people are so skeptical about this subject.
It's pretty simple. There's buffing compound in there! I don't think, as far
as I know, that I have any reason to lie to you about that.
I do unfortunately see people who bring their new horns in after a year
or more. They've taken care of them. They've cleaned them and oiled them but
their valves are already loose, noisy and valve compression is significantly
reduced. Tuning slides have become too loose and move by themselves. All
easily preventable, but who would ever think there should be such a problem with a
brand new horn? To me it seems hard to argue with the idea that abrasives in
your valves might not be a very good thing, but that's horn players for you!
