I second that, Paul !!!

Reminds me of Igor Markevich, who screemed "cuivre, cuivre " & we blew
as brassy as possible & he shouted again "Hoooorns, CUIVRE, CUIVRE !",
so I asked him to explain to us what he wanted with "cuivre". His reply:
"STOPPING".

So you can see, how we suffer under some of these idiots. "De mortuis
nihil nisi bene !", as he died meanwhile.

Dear All

Hmmmm - reminds me of a time when we were to perform a new production of
Puccini's 'Tosca'. On the morning of the first performance, we had a
rehearsal for something else and the Tosca conductor walked in, saw that
the 1st clarinet was a deputy and said to the manager - "where is Kxxxx
Bxxxx?" The manager said - "he is at home, ill in bed but do not worry,
he
said that he would do his best to make it for the show".
About five minutes later, the 1st clarinet's telephone rang - it was the
Tosca conductor who said - "right, the solo at the beginning of Act 3, I
have been thinking about this and in the 3rd bar, 2nd beat on the A flat
I
want you to.........." and that is as far as he got before he received
advice as to what he should do in another place; then the phone was
slammed
down. Sometimes, youv'e just got to tell 'em!

Cheers

Paul A. Kampen - 4th horn, Orchestra of Opera North (Leeds UK)
